Farewell to summer . . .

There is something deep within us that sobs at endings. Why, God, does everything have to end? Why does all nature grow old? Why do spring and summer have to go? ~ Joe Wheeler

Summer feels as though it is a fleeting moment, three months of the year gone as quickly as  a whisper in the wind.  Autumn will begin this week, summer will be a mere memory for 2017.  It was a good summer, not the best weather one could have hoped for, but it will have some happy memories for me and my family.  All one could hope for is good memories to look back on one day.

The hummingbirds will soon be leaving for warmer weather, the leaves will become golden and display the beautiful tones associated with autumn.  The days have already gotten shorter and the nights longer.

Hurricane Jose has made it’s way up the East Coast producing large waves, rip currents, extremely fast water rushing onto the beaches and for many shore towns, beach erosion. Even with Mother Nature showing her dominance, children still played and beach goers soaked in summers last rays of sunshine and warmth.

We say so long to summer but not goodbye.  After the long winter, spring will once again arrive in a display of beautiful colors and warm sunshine.  God will bless us with summer once again but the calendar year will have jumped by one and time will have marched on.

For now we will relish in the warm sunshine and wait for another spring and summer to shine upon us  . . .

  1. Beautiful post Debra – here in the south summer is still upon us. It’s one of my favorite things about living here as my friends in the northeast prepare for autumn and winter. Then again, I do miss the fall foliage. Sigh – what’s a girl to do!?

    1. Thank you Tina. Yes, I am really not a cold weather person, I’m not sure if I would miss the cold and snow. Once the leaves have fallen, it’s just bare and brown. My husband says I would miss the change of seasons, but I really don’t think I would miss winter.
